Behind the Scenes: Bringing a Luxury Texas Hill Country Ranch to Life
One of the best parts of what we do is seeing familiar clients come back to us with exciting new projects.
So when a long-time client invited IGS Homeworks to design the technology for their dream Texas Hill Country ranch, we couldn’t wait to get started.
What followed was an 18-month journey involving many design decisions, countless hours of collaboration, and a shared goal: create a home where technology feels effortless, beautifully integrated and almost invisible.

A Ranch Designed for Family and Entertaining
The property would eventually include three separate buildings:
- A stunning main residence
- A barn with an apartment above
- A guest house complete with a games room and lounge
The homeowners love hosting family and friends, so every technology decision came back to one simple question:
How can we make this home incredibly enjoyable without making it complicated to use?
Whether someone was listening to music on the patio, watching a movie in the guest house or adjusting the lights for dinner, everything needed to work seamlessly with just a few taps.
Choosing Technology Which Complements the Home
From the very first architectural drawings, it was obvious this wasn’t going to be an ordinary build.
The reclaimed wood, natural stone and handcrafted finishes created a warm Texas ranch aesthetic, and the technology needed to respect that vision—not compete with it.
Our philosophy throughout the project was simple:
- Speakers should disappear.
- TVs should blend into the décor.
- Lighting should create atmosphere.
- Technology should stay in the background until you need it.
Two products immediately won over both the homeowners and the interior designers: luxury custom keypads and invisible speakers. Those choices helped shape the rest of the project.
Lighting That Changes the Feel of Every Room
Beautiful Lighting Without Walls Full of Switches
Luxury homes often have multiple lighting fixtures in every room—recessed lights, sconces, accent lighting, pendants and under-cabinet lighting.

Without careful planning, that can leave homeowners facing rows of confusing light switches.
Instead, we designed the entire home around Lutron HomeWorks lighting control.
By centralizing the lighting circuits and programming custom scenes, each room could instantly transform with the press of a single button.
Morning.
Relax.
Entertaining.
Evening.
Everything was designed around how the homeowners actually live. This included a “night” lighting pathway from the master suite to the kitchen, for any night owls!
To complement the home’s rustic elegance, we selected Lutron Alisse keypads in Antique Brass with individually engraved buttons. They became beautiful design features rather than ordinary light switches.
Highlighting the Home’s Architecture
Some of the most memorable lighting isn’t immediately noticeable.
Throughout the ranch we installed discreet low-voltage MP Lighting fixtures that softly illuminate reclaimed beams, vaulted ceilings, stonework, hallways and covered porches.
Rather than flooding rooms with brightness, these fixtures gently reveal architectural details that might otherwise disappear after sunset.
The result is a home that feels warm, inviting and effortlessly elegant from day into night.

Invisible Technology, Incredible Sound
One of our favourite challenges involved the home’s unique ceiling finishes.
The designers had chosen reclaimed timber ceilings in the Great Room and beautiful leather ceiling panels in the study. Traditional speakers would have completely interrupted those finishes so we researched invisible options.
Instead, we installed Amina Invisible Speakers, which disappear beneath wood, fabric and other finishes while still delivering exceptional sound.
This wasn’t a simple installation.
Our team worked alongside the carpenters for several weeks, carefully routing precise openings into the reclaimed timber to ensure the speakers performed perfectly while remaining completely hidden.
It’s one of those details most visitors never notice—but everyone enjoys.
Music throughout both the main house and guest house is powered by Sonos, allowing the homeowners and their guests to control music room by room using the intuitive Sonos app.
TVs Which Don’t Look Like TVs
Large black screens don’t always suit beautifully designed interiors. That’s why we installed several Samsung Frame TVs throughout the ranch.
When not being watched, they display artwork that complements each room, helping the technology blend naturally into the home’s design.
To make every installation feel custom, we worked with Deco Frames, bringing frame samples to the design team so they could select finishes that perfectly matched each space—from the Great Room to the primary bathroom.
In the guest house lounge, entertainment took priority.
Two premium 75-inch Samsung TVs, paired with Sonos Arc soundbars and subwoofers, create an incredible space for watching movies, sports and big family gatherings.
Keeping a Large Property Secure
With several buildings spread across the ranch, security needed to be just as thoughtfully designed as the entertainment systems.
We installed a fibre connection to the entrance gate, allowing a robust 2N intercom system to provide two-way communication with visitors while giving the homeowners control of the gate from anywhere. The landscape contractor built a stone plinth for our installation, ensuring the technology blended in beautifully.
Security cameras were installed across all buildings, providing real-time views of the property and complete peace of mind whether the owners are home or away.
For a property of this size, reliable surveillance isn’t simply about security—it’s also about convenience and day-to-day management.
A Home That Feels Effortless
Projects like this remind us why we love what we do.
The best smart homes aren’t filled with obvious technology.
They’re homes where the lighting always feels right, the music follows you from room to room, the TV disappears when it’s not needed and everything works exactly as you’d expect.
Technology should make life easier—not more complicated.
After 18 months of collaboration with the homeowners, architects, builders and interior designers, that’s exactly what this Texas Hill Country ranch became: a beautiful family home where luxury technology quietly enhances everyday life.
If you’re planning a new build or major renovation, our team can help design a custom audio visual, lighting control and smart home system that fits both your home and the way you live.
